NEVADA
There is in me a lust to embrace
this stark land
of snow dusted peaks
gypsum
lakes
 Archean sand
To melt in the rock
rise
with the clouds
 and ride
with the wind
follow each raindrop
beginning
to end
Where ranges run for hundreds of
miles
meandering rivers
valleys
of sage
 parallel
isles
With scattered cities that
glitter at night
created by dreamers
far-open
clusters
 of colored
starlight
And cities abandoned, masked in
the sage
broken glass litter
headstones
and headframes
 distorted
with age
Where on distant passes
you can
see heaven's gate
last year and tomorrow
look
ten million years
 into layers
of slate
As though some ancient weaver
with
fabric of the planet
created this tapestry
sewn in
the rocks
 stitched in
the granite
God how I love it
it's
part of my soul
its grits in my blood
engraved
on my brain
 won't ever
let go
